Aspect ratios.
In practice.
Calculate dimensions, compare proportions, and crop or add padding to an image.
Compare aspect ratios.
Choose a frame to adjust its crop. Each frame remembers its position.
Adjust 4:3
Drag the image to choose what stays in the frame. Each ratio remembers its position.
Use the arrow keys to make small adjustments. The comparisons and ZIP export update automatically.
Choose aspect ratios and download the frames together. Each has its own saved crop.
4:3 1200 × 900 · 16:9 1200 × 675 · 9:16 675 × 1200
Frames use exact integer ratios. The long edge may be rounded down slightly.

What is an
aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio describes the relationship between width and height—not the total number of pixels. A 4:3 frame can be 800 × 600, 1600 × 1200 or 4000 × 3000. Change its size, and the proportion stays the same.
When the exact dimensions would contain fractions of a pixel, this lab rounds to the nearest whole pixel and tells you when the match is approximate.
| Application | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Small image | 800 px | 600 px |
| Standard image | 1,600 px | 1,200 px |
| Photography | 4,000 px | 3,000 px |
| Classic screen | 1,024 px | 768 px |
Each example has the same 4:3 proportion.
